The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Follows Mixed Response
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified team members about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a clearer vision.
The president expressed that the developers is now overhauling the project with a revised vision, aiming to address community desires.
A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment
This announcement follows a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.
Below is the entire text from Ismailer's communication:
Team—
I understand you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game demo was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It revealed the necessity for a sharper vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to consideration and overhauled the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s positioned to achieve its promise to our audience.
The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of 31st Union. Following a period of discussions, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
His guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having spent the last 15 years developing and overseeing some of the most well-known series in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to continue seeing the progress of the game in the weeks to come.
David

Game Details and Vision
The upcoming game was revealed in October 2024 together with a community playtest. Initially, 31st Union described the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the description states. "Face the competition with new abilities, risks, and obstacles that shift every match. Will you leave securely with your collected items? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and hope your squad can secure victory? The choice is up to you."
The game has not yet received an official debut schedule or supported systems, but fans can expect more updates as production continues.
