The Tottenham defender found the net on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak on the road in the top division and handed the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having left Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the tally a short while after the defender's first goal, directing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of excellent saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, advising the match official to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay in 14th position and are half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

After a drab midweek display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a mere attempts on target, Frank chose the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Defender the Dutchman converted into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a well-worked corner routine, with the midfielder heading the ball back across the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And the captain - filling in as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to nod in.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defence, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the duo handled superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have worn off slightly and fans headed to the exits after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a major worry for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's pair of established centre-forwards - had scored just a single goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to add to that poor record on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

The striker's form was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having room and time to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, too, failed to make an impact after replacing Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of chance. The majority of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.

Everton: Moyes' men travel to the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on Monday, 3 November at 8 PM.
