It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

This is the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are all that remain for a side that has accomplished all there is.

That it took until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It's challenging for their hitters to possess a record if never given the opportunity.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to produce her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her bow and seven world titles have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She made sure her country would not fail again.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Certain people claim the reasoning behind championship match pressure. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this performance was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"The possibility to take the field and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself that way, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

By the time she was dismissed her side needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I am glad we have the belief to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it another time but, if necessary, we are confident we can do it."

Those words will be the last Australia's opponents at this championship need to hear.

During the last week a belief they will win from any position has only strengthened - this triumph following victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they exited last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she later said she wanted to have participated through the pain.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this tournament is expected to be her last as captain in ODI cricket and she is yet to win a global event as skipper.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
